About Alsace..

Alsace is located on France's eastern border and on the west bank of the upper Rhine adjacent to Germany and Switzerland.

Alsace has through its history changed hands between Germany and France on several occasions. The local culture is distinct, and the region offers historic cities and castles, and interesting countryside. A popular itinerary is the Alsatian Vineyard Route - fabulous for walking from town to town trying a whole bunch of local wines.
Alsace also has some of the most beautiful cathedrals and churches in Western Europe. The stunning Strasbourg Cathedral is a unique example of a mix of roman and gothic architecture.
Alsatian cuisine is very distinctive, strongly based on Germanic culinary traditions. The gastronomic symbol of the région is undoubtedly Sauerkraut, a word included into the French language as choucroute.
Alsace is one of the smallest regions in France, but it possesses the largest number of five-star chefs per inhabitant!

Le Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival

Friday, November 18, 2011

Despite the chill and drizzle of a typical autumn evening in Seattle, 400 revelers gathered to clink glasses and celebrate l'arrivée du Beaujolais Nouveau. On Friday, November 18th, the French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest presented its 19th Annual Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival at the Columbia Tower Club, at the very top of the Columbia Center Tower. The festival-goers from across Puget Sound were in attendance to honor the French tradition of welcoming the arrival of the first 2011 "new wines" - the famous Beaujolais Nouveau wine from the Beaujolais region of France. The evening started off à la française with rousing tunes by celebrated local accordionist, Bonnie Birch. There was much to see, do, eat and drink with wine bars sponsored by Georges Duboeuf, Maison Louis Jadot, Evening Land Vineyards, Joseph Drouhin and the Northwest Wine Academy of the South Seattle Community College.

Guests had the opportunity to mingle with fellow French, Francophone and Francophile celebrants who included representatives from domestic and international business, the non-profit sector, the Washington State Consular Corps, as well as local government representatives. This exclusive party was the perfect way to kick-off the holiday season and rejoice the French way with wine, food, music, festivities and fun.
