Bal des Pompiers & Bastille Day Festival

    Saturday & Sunday, July 10 & 11, 2010

Bastille Day is a summer celebration to mark the French Revolution and France's Independence Day.

The Bastille Day Festival takes place within the frame of the FESTAL program led by the Seattle Center and supported by the City of Seattle, whose goal is to bring foreign communities closer and to show the cultural diversity of the city. The Bastille Day Festival will take place on Saturday, July 10 and on Sunday, July 11, 2010.

It is an opportunity for the 7000-strong French community to invite the local population to discover France's traditions and art of living, while also showing its modern aspects.

The Festival begins with the Bal des Pompiers (Firemen's Ball), which is a great tradition in France and is part of the celebration for Bastille Day.

The night before, or on Bastille Day, July 14, the firemen of each city and village are hosts of their respective 'Bal des Pompiers' which often includes live music and partying in the streets. On the main square of any village, people enjoy great live bands, usually with accordions, and eat, drink and dance with the firemen under the warm summer night sky.

The festival includes a cultural aspect with a stage dedicated to cultural and musical events, graphic and photographic exhibitions, as well as booths selling French products from specific areas of France. There is also a trade and economic section that is composed of booths presenting French companies who are established in the area.

The Festival is organized by France Education Northwest, a 501c3 subsidiary of the French-American Chamber of Commerce under the auspices of the French government.

    Le Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival

    Friday, November 19, 2010

The Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival attracts 300 guests each year. This great event celebrates the newly-released wines of Beaujolais and brings people together to eat, drink and be merry!

This annual event symbolizes the coming together of France and America and provides the opportunity for our partners to promote France and its products in an  welcoming atmosphere.

The French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest will present its 18th Annual Festival du Beaujolais Nouveau on Friday, November 19th, 2010.

Beaujolais Nouveau honors the French tradition of welcoming the arrival of the first “new wines” of the year – the famous Beaujolais Nouveau from the Beaujolais region of France – this ceremonial uncorking of the wine in the cafés of France is celebrated all over the world.

Beaujolais is one of the older French vineyards, with the first vines being planted in Roman times. This tradition signals the end of the harvest season in France and the beginning of the fall holiday season!

    About the 2009 Beaujolais Nouveau:

Open Wine Bar & French Buffet featuring:

    300 fellow celebrants

    Beaujolais Wines
    French Fine Cuisine

    French-themed village
    Live Entertainment

    Silent Auction

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy an open-wine bar with 3 different Beaujolais Nouveau wines: Georges Duboeuf, Joseph Drouhin and Terres Dorées, with aromas that evoke cherries and blackberries with a round, rich taste but without any tannic character.

The wine bar was paired with a wide range of food stations, as well as a French-themed village offering samplings of products from French restaurants and boutiques in the Puget Sound area.

More than 300 Francophiles sipped wine while enjoying live musical entertainment from a local band (TBC) playing French pop inspired jazz tunes.

The 2009 theme was “Beaujolais Bonheur”. This event gave guests the chance to put their worries of 2009 behind them and rejoice the French way with wine, food, music, fun and festivities. It goes perfectly with the fresh and light taste of Beaujolais wine!

Special thanks to our sponsors and food donors: WJ Deutsch & Son, Georges Duboeuf, France Amérique, France Today, Seattle Weekly, TV5 Monde, Peterson, Madrange, G&D Seafood, Hama Hama Oysters, Markea Prawns and UNIC.
