Chris StearnsHouse Speaker Pro Tem at Washington State House of Representatives, 47th Legislative District

Rep. Chris Stearns serves as Speaker Pro Tem for the Washington State House of Representatives and presides over the House floor when members are debating and voting on bills. He proudly represents the 47th Legislative District, which includes the cities of Auburn, Kent, and Covington.

Chris, who is Navajo, also serves as Chair of the House Members of Color Caucus. Chris also Co-Chairs the Legislative Space Caucus, the Nuclear Energy Legislative Caucus, and is the Vice-Chair of the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators.

Chris previously served on the Auburn City Council. He also served two terms as Chairman of the Washington State Gambling Commission.

Earlier in his career, Chris was appointed by President Bill Clinton as the first-ever Director of Native American Affairs at the U.S. Energy Department. He also served as Democratic Counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources, and Deputy Counsel for the U.S. House Subcommittee on Native American Affairs.

Chris is a graduate of Williams College, Cornell Law School, and the Lawrenceville School.
